How to Get Your Brand Named in ChatGPT: Fix Identity First

TL;DR: To get your brand named in ChatGPT, first make it easy to identify: use one public name, keep one page that states plainly what you are and who you serve, and get the same facts repeated by independent sources. Engines cannot recommend a brand they cannot pin down. Ads will not shortcut this: OpenAI says advertising does not influence the answers ChatGPT provides.

Most brands that are missing from AI answers do not have a content problem first. They have an identity problem: three names, two descriptions and no outside source that agrees with either.

1. Use one name everywhere

A brand that appears under several names gives an engine several weak signals instead of one strong one. If your website says one thing, your LinkedIn page another and your podcast listing a third, a model has to guess whether they are the same company. Pick one primary public name and one short form, and use them in every title, bio and directory listing. Retire the rest, with redirects where old names still rank.

2. Keep one page that says exactly what you are

Every brand needs one canonical page that states, in plain sentences, what it is, where it operates and who it serves. Put that answer in the first two sentences, not behind a slogan. On Google, Organization structured data on your home page “can help Google better understand your organization’s administrative details and disambiguate your organization in search results” (Google Search Central). Keep that markup identical to the visible text.

3. Let others say it for you, not your own rankings

Independent sources repeating the same facts about you carry more weight than lists you publish about yourself. Lily Ray tracked 100 “best B2B software” queries in Google AI Overviews: when an Overview cited a listicle where a brand ranked itself first, that brand was left out of the recommendation 83% of the time, and in 70% of cases the listicle helped competitors instead (Lily Ray, 4 Oct 2026). Ranking is not naming either: in Discoverable’s UK study, ChatGPT did not name the business ranked first on Google in 72.5% of eligible answers (Discoverable, 16 Sep 2026). Earned coverage, interviews and partner pages that use your exact name do the job better. More on this in our piece on third-party corroboration.

4. Skip the shortcuts that do not exist

There is no special file, schema or paid slot that makes an AI assistant name your brand. Google says there are no additional requirements or special schema needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode (Google Search Central). OpenAI, announcing new ChatGPT ad formats on 5 October 2026, repeated that “advertising does not influence the answers ChatGPT provides” (OpenAI). An ad buys a labelled slot, not a recommendation.

Where White Wood fits

White Wood is a GEO agency in Jakarta that gets brands named in AI answers, using its Narrative Architecture method and SOLEDAD measurement. Identity is the first layer we fix. Our work runs through canonical answer-first pages on your own site (authority), independent coverage (corroboration), community presence (consensus), pages built for the real question (relevance) and content that stays consistent, fresh and cross-cited (retrievability), measured with our own engine, SOLEDAD. Identity sits under all five: if the name wobbles, nothing above it holds.

FAQ

How do I get my brand named in ChatGPT? Make your brand easy to identify with one name and one plain description, publish a canonical page that answers what you are, and earn independent sources that repeat the same facts. Then measure the prompts that matter, per engine.

Do I need special schema or an AI text file? For Google’s AI features, no: Google says no special schema or AI text files are needed. Organization markup still helps Google disambiguate your brand.

Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT? No. OpenAI states that advertising does not influence ChatGPT’s answers.
